Freemasonry, without the mystery

More familiar than you might think.

Freemasonry is one of the world's oldest social and charitable organisations — but what happens inside a Lodge is probably much more familiar than you imagine.

At its heart, it is about friendship, personal development and contributing positively to the community. Members come from all walks of life and meet regularly to enjoy each other's company, take part in traditional ceremonies and support charitable and community causes.

You don't need to know anything about Freemasonry before you get in touch. Most members didn't when they first became curious.

What does a Lodge evening look like?

So, what actually happens?

A Lodge evening combines friendship, tradition and conversation — and is probably much less mysterious than you might imagine.

01

Arrive & Catch Up

Members arrive, the Temple is prepared for the meeting, and there is time for a drink, conversation and catching up before proceedings begin.

02

The Lodge Meeting

There is some ordinary Lodge business, followed by a ceremony or presentation. The ceremonies are rather like short plays, using symbolism to convey the history, traditions and principles of Freemasonry.

03

The Festive Board

Afterwards, members dine together at the Festive Board — an important social part of the evening with conversation, speeches and traditional formal toasts.
